Biomarkers for Reversal of Ageing
New Delhi, Thursday, January 21, 2010: Diastolic heart functions described as A/E ratio in medical term, core body temperature and insulin levels in the body are the three most common biomarkers of ageing. The studies have shown that correct lifestyle involving diet and exercise programme can reverse ageing which can be reflected in the above three biological markers. A more than E wave, rise in core temperature and high insulin levels indicate ageing. This was stated by Dr. K K Aggarwal, President, Heart Care Foundation of India and E medinews.
Many studies have shown that reducing calories either by reducing dietary intake or by burning more calories one can reverse the A/E ratio, reduce the core temperature by 0.4 to 0.5 degree and reduce insulin levels in the blood.
With these not only there is an improvement in ageing biological markers but also one reduces the chances of future heart attack, paralysis, blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, all so called lifestyle disorders. Most animal studies have shown that reduced dietary intake help them live longer. Experimental studies are available in animals from worms to mice to dogs. The clinical formula is to reduce 25% of the calories one is consuming from diet and to increase the level of physical activity by 25% to burn 25% more calories.
