Dharma Gurus oppose homosexuality marriage legislation

Thursday New Delhi WFR 23rd July 2009: Legalizing homosexuality by the government will be a direct attack on religious teachings, and will lead to a dilution of the same, resulting in a loosening of all moral social structures and laws. All religious gurus collected today by the World Fellowship of Religions at 23 Bhai Veer Singh Marg and passed a joint resolution that homosexuality is a deviation from normal laws of nature and is not accepted in any religious forum. The resolution further added that while one may not control what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms, any overt expression of deviant sexual activities have been actively discouraged by all religious teachings. The resolution requested the government of India not to legalize an act which may have serious and moral implications to Indian Society.

Addressing a press conference here Dr Sadhvi Sadhna Chairperson of the world Fellowship of Religions said that at the outset, a differentiation must be made between transsexuals / transvestites who are born with a different physiology and ambiguous sexuality, and homosexuals, those born as men or women.

Dharma Gurus who gathered today included Sh. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan (Islam) Dr A K Merchant (Bhai), E I malekar (yahudi), Swami Raghuanand Hi (Hinduism), Sh. E C Baglii (Parsi), Sh Lama Lob Jang ( Buddhist), Father Domni ( Christian) BK Sapna ( Bharhma Kumari), Maha Mantra das ( Hare Krishna),  and Dr Mahendir Singh (Sikh). Others who addressed the media were Mr. Purushothaman Mulloli General Convener Jack India, Dr Shankar Swaroop Sharma Social Scientist, N K Nautial Chaorman Mahrashatra Hindu academy, and Dr KK Aggarwal President Heart Care Foundation of India.

Talking on the issue Dr KK Aggarwal said that in USA, Europe and Canada the MSM are not allowed to donate blood for life and in Spain,  New Zealand and Australia for one year after the last sexual act. MSM is  classified a high risk behavior and every blood recipient has a right to know weather or not the blood donor weather male, female, MSM or otherwise is indulging in a high risk behavior or not.

The sanctity of sexuality must be maintained as it has mystical links with divinity, being an activity that originates life, and as such it is not to be degraded into a matter of frivolous entertainment or self indulgence.

The case in the Delhi High Court was filed by an NGO seeking to do public work which involves identifying and organizing homosexuals or those with deviant sexual behaviour into social groups for the purpose of HIV prevention.

The claim that it is 150 year old archaic law imposed on us by the British is incorrect, since laws, including Section 377 IPC have been periodically reviewed by our law commissions since independence and this section has been considered worthy of being retained.

The claim that the law violates personal space and privacy is incorrect, since no law can reach what individuals do in a purely private sphere. The law is only a threat when deviant private practices attempt to influence or impact the public sphere. In fact, the petitioner has not been able to produce single evidence in Court of how and when the law has been used to violate anybody’s privacy.
